Scholarship to help Indigenous students

Scholarship to help Indigenous students

Friday, 04 May 2012

ECU has joined with Yanchep Beach Joint Venture to offer a new scholarship for Indigenous students.

The Scholarship, worth $18,000 over three years, will help one undergraduate student from an Indigenous background complete their studies, with preference given to students undertaking environmental sciences.

Successful applicants will also get the opportunity to complete at work placement with the Yanchep Beach Joint Venture, which is working to bring together the different elements of the Yanchep community to create a vibrant place to live, work and play.

ECU Director of Advancement Dr Anthony Medhurst said the scholarship will help young Indigenous students kick-start their education journey.

“Starting the university journey for many students can be challenging but  this scholarship will give students from an Indigenous background financial support as they complete their tertiary education,” Dr Medhurst said.

“We are thankful to the Yanchep Beach Joint Venture for helping to set up this scholarship and we look forward to working with them in the future to develop mutually beneficial opportunities.”
