Yanchep Beach Scholarship winner

Friday, 26 October 2012

Congratulations to Marnie Thompson, the inaugural recipient of the Yanchep Beach Joint Venture Indigenous Scholarship.

Established this year, the scholarship is designed to help one undergraduate student from an Indigenous background complete their studies. It is worth $18,000 over three years.

Marnie is a first year student doing a Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Business with double majors in Contemporary Fashion and Textiles and English.

Marnie is particularly grateful for the scholarship as it has removed the financial burden associated with her studies and allowed her to focus on fulfilling her ambition – pursuing a career in fashion.

The scholarship was presented by Chief Executive Officer of Yanchep Beach Joint Venture, Gin Wah Ang, and ECU’s Director of Advancement, Dr Anthony Medhurst.

“On behalf of everyone here at ECU I would like to congratulate Marnie on this fantastic achievement,” Dr Medhurst said.

“As as former scholarship recipient myself, I understand first-hand how much it makes a difference.  It can change your life and create untold opportunities. We are thankful to the Yanchep Beach Joint Venture for setting up this scholarship and we look forward to working with them in the future to provide further support for ECU’s Indigenous students.”
