Alumni entertained in glittering jazz show
Thursday, 22 November 2012
450 Alumni attended ECU's first Jazz Under the Stars concert at the Joondalup Campus.
Edith Cowan University’s award-winning Chancellery building provided a striking background for the University’s first Jazz Under the Stars alumni concert on Saturday, 17 November.
A crowd of more than 450 were entertained by three of WAAPA’s most accomplished jazz alumni in a series of glittering performances.
The Jamie Oehlers Quartet opened the proceedings working through Oehlers’ most recent album Smoke and Mirrors, supported by Tal Cohen on piano, Karl Florisson on bass and Jacob Evans on drums.
Oehlers was followed by an eclectic mix of swing jazz, samba and bossa nova from Victoria Newton.
Newton performed jazz favourites including It Was Just One of Those Things by Cole Porter and David Bowie’s Life on Mars in Portuguese.
Libby Hammer’s Quintet rounded out the night with a mix of cabaret jazz, soul-drenched blues and swing.
A valuable networking event, the concert provided a great chance to stay in contact with some of ECU’s 90,000 other alumni.
