ECU Beach Volleyball Team's Brooke Butler and Kobi Evans with Vice-Chancellor Professor Kerry Cox.
ECU’s sports community gathered to celebrate the University’s best and brightest on the field at the annual 2012 ECU Sports Star Awards on Friday, 26 October.
International netballer Caitlin Bassett won the Sports Star of the Year award, presented to a student who has demonstrated outstanding sporting achievement in sport.
Caitlin represents Australia as part of the Diamonds netball team as well as playing with the West Coast Fever in the ANZ Championship.
Regrettably Caitlin was unable to attend because she was busy representing Australia in the Quad Series Netball Series, which the team won.
ECU’s Women’s Beach Volleyball team won the Sports Team of the Year award while Kobi Evans doubled the team’s tally taking home the Female Sports Star of the Year award.
Bachelor of Science (Exercise and Sports Science) student Israel Tan won the Male Sports Star of the Year award for his achievements in football while the Service to University Sports Award for services to sport off the field was won by Sebastian Bernard.
The occasion was also used to recognise the Green and Gold Medal winners from the Australian University Games last month.
Congratulations to all the award winners.
