Friday, 07 December 2012

Congratulations to WAAPA academic and WA composer Dr Cat Hope, winner of the People’s Choice Award for Networked Performance at the inaugural Space Time Concerto Competition in Newcastle.

The competition is a chance to celebrate everything new and exciting in concerto, encompassing the latest contemporary interpretations and new developments in digital technology.

Dr Hope said tthe competition inspired her to try out new and exciting developments in musical technology.

“This competition provided me with a fantastic opportunity to try out my music in collaboration with five different countries over the internet!” Dr Hope said.

“This competition was a great way to recognise the diversity of music being made by university graduates from Australia. Winning the people’s choice award was great - as an experimental artist that doesn't happen often!"

This award is the latest in a long list of accolades for the ECU research fellow.

In 2011 Dr Hope was a finalist in the WA Citizen of the Year Awards for her work in developing WAAPA’s postgraduate music program, and her contributions to the arts community.

2011 also saw Dr Hope win the award for Excellence in Experimental Music at the Art Music Awards, as well as receiving an ARC Linkage grant, worth $220,000, to create an archive of contemporary art music from WA.
