Almost 2200 ECU students celebrated their graduations at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Almost 2200 excited students gathered in front of family, friends and members of the ECU community to celebrate their graduation at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on Saturday, 19 and Sunday, 20 January.
The weekend began with 470 students from the School of Education graduating in front of a packed house.
Students were inspired by Occasional Speaker, Ashdale Secondary College Principal, Ms Carol Strauss and student speaker Courtney Stott.
Ceremony two saw more than 300 students graduate from the School of Communications and Arts, Kurongkurl Katitjin and WAAPA. Guest speakers Scott Henderson, the ECU Vice-President (Corporate Services), and Stephen Moore, student speaker and WA Vocational Student of the Year, both encouraged students to embrace change and reach their potential.
Sunday began with more than 440 students from the Faculty of Business and Law celebrating their achievements in front of family and friends. Students were treated to presentations from Her Worship, the Mayor of the City of Wanneroo, Councillor Tracey Roberts JP and student speaker Anthony Scott.
More than 420 students from the School of Computer and Security Science, School of Engineering, School of Exercise and Health Sciences and the School of Natural Sciences graduated in the next ceremony, which saw ECU Emeritus Professor and Honorary Doctorate holder Professor Anthony Watson present the Occasional speaker address and graduate Scott McCormack present as the student speaker.
The weekend’s graduations came to a close with more than 500 students from the School of Medical Sciences, the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the School of Psychology and Social Science celebrating their achievements. The audience were inspired by presentations from State Manager of the WA Department of Health and Ageing Mrs Helen Grinbergs, and graduating student, Dominique Ferreira.
Following the presentation of their parchments, Vice-Chancellor Professor Kerry Cox encouraged all graduates to live by the ECU values of integrity, respect, rational inquiry and personal excellence and to pursue a commitment to lifelong learning.
Each ceremony was followed by a Toast to Graduates, which was held in the Bellevue Ballroom, giving graduates a chance to celebrate their achievements with proud family and friends.
