Put yourself in the picture

Tuesday, 05 July 2016

Not sure what to study at university? Then come along to ECU’s Open Day to get a look at higher education from a completely fresh angle.

For the first time in WA, visitors to the Joondalup Campus can get a profile picture that will be the envy of your friends by capturing a moving image in the 180 degree video booth.

The booth uses 36 synchronised DSLR cameras, triggered at the same time, to capture your pose resulting in The Matrix ‘bullet time’ effect that gives the impression of a 3D picture.

With the option to go solo or in groups of four, you can get the image emailed to you, or opt to have it uploaded straight to your favourite social media channel.

The 180 degree video booth is just one of the many free interactive events on offer. Other attractions include:

  • Mind reading: Have your mind read to identify the best course for you. Visitors wear headsets that monitor brain activity and are then shown information about courses. The headsets detect which generate the most beta waves, which suggest alertness or interest.
  • New courses: Learn about new offerings for 2017, including the Bachelor of Engineering (Petroleum Engineering) Honours, Master of Science (Assisted Reproductive Technology) and Master of Nursing (Graduate Entry) courses.
  • Zorb rollers: Ever wanted to walk on water? Try out these giant inflatable balls on the Joondalup Campus lake.
  • MiLi Markets: Boutique markets featuring arts crafts and vintage design stalls.
  • Food Trucks: There will be a range of food and drink options, including the Australian launch of the Hamdog, as seen on the ‘Shark Tank’.
  • Scitech Virtual Reality station: Explore virtual worlds with these Samsung Gear VR headsets.
  • Nova 93.7: iPad give-aways every 20 minutes.
  • Channel 9 Jeep: AFL Footy show handball competition.

ECU’s Joondalup Campus Open Day will be held on Sunday, 17 July 2016 between 10am and 3pm.

ECU’s Mount Lawley Campus will hold an Open Day on 14 August and South West Campus on Sunday 28 August.

Please be aware the Joondalup Train Line will be closed between the Butler and Joondalup Stations on July 17.

Rail replacement buses will be running and there is plenty of free parking on campus. If you are travelling from Perth, your train journey will not be affected.
