Professor Taggart spent over 17 years at ECU and is well-known in the University for his passion for learning and expertise in teacher education, with a particular focus on health and physical education.
He has worked extensively with teachers, physical education and sport associations, school districts, school systems and peak industry groups on innovation, research and evaluation projects over the past decade.
"I have been greatly impressed by Professor Taggart's diverse range of skills, and by his willingness to engage harmoniously and productively both within the University and with the community-at-large", said ECU's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kerry Cox.
Under his leadership ECU South West has gained over $5 million in funding for capital works and new buildings, forged a closer relationship with Jiaxing, China, (Bunbury's sister city) including staff and student exchanges, seen a marked increase in student satisfaction and increased research and community project funding, including free public lectures and on campus events for students.
"Professor Taggart has contributed significantly to building a greater ECU South West and he will be sorely missed by students and staff. We will now look forward to new leadership to further build on ECU South West's recent successes," said Simon Holthouse, Chairman of the South West Campus Advisory Board.
