2010 Edith Cowan Memorial Lecture

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Edith Cowan University (ECU) will be hosting the annual Edith Cowan Memorial Lecture entitled, ‘Equality of opportunity for all: A personal perspective,’ on Monday, 8 March 2010.

Delivered by ECU Professor Donna Cross, the Edith Cowan Memorial Lecture is designed to honour ECU’s namesake, Edith Dircksey Cowan, who dedicated her life to equal rights and reducing the barriers to education and leadership for women.

Professor Donna Cross is the Foundation Professor of Child and Adolescent Health in ECU’s School of Exercise, Biomedical and Health Sciences and is also the Director of the University’s Child Health Promotion Research Centre.

Over the past 20 years, Donna has conducted primary prevention research in the areas of bullying prevention, injury control, mental health promotion and smoking cessation. While much of this research has been conducted in Australia she has also been involved in youth-based research throughout the USA as well as South Africa, Canada, and Japan, and worked with organisations including WHO, UNICEF and the American Health Foundation.

The 2010 Edith Cowan Memorial Lecture is a free event which is open to all members of the community.
