Edith Cowan University (ECU) Design student and East Perth resident, Nikki Kasperkiewicz, was recently awarded a $2,000 grant by international furniture company IKEA, for her own design of a chair.

The grant is part of an ongoing partnership between IKEA and ECU’s Interior and Spatial Design course.

Nineteen students submitted designs, with the winner chosen by IKEA’s Promotions Manager, Rosanne Pacecca.

Nikki was thrilled to receive the grant, and will build the chair next semester as her major project.

“To have the IKEA designers select my design was tremendous, and the professional and public exposure from the competition was invaluable.

“The competition was an excellent experience and I look forward to producing the chair prototype next semester.”

Lecturer in Communication and Arts, Mr Alun Price, thanked IKEA for their ongoing commitment and support.

“The Interior and Spatial Design course works closely with IKEA on a number of initiatives, and we thank them for giving our students invaluable industry experience.”
