Local students win SCRAM grand final

Tuesday, 19 October 2010

Local students from Safety Bay Senior High School put their conflict resolution skills to the test last week at the 2010 School’s Conflict Resolution and Mediation (SCRAM) grand final, held at the ECU Joondalup Campus.

Sponsored by ECU’s Faculty of Business and Law, SCRAM is an interactive role play mediation competition open to year nine and ten students from across WA that facilitates the development of effective dispute resolution skills.

The competition heats were held at high schools across the state, with the grand final seeing the team from Safety Bay SHS going up against last year’s winners, Perth Modern School.

The two teams competed against each other in a mediation session and their conflict resolution techniques were assessed by a panel of judges, who announced Safety Bay as the overall competition winners.

Head of ECU’s School of Law and Justice, Professor Mark Stoney, congratulates the students from Safety Bay on their outstanding participation throughout the competition.

“The Faculty of Business and Law at ECU has proudly sponsored SCRAM over the past six years and regards the competition as an important vehicle through which young people are encouraged to practice and support the principles of mediation.”

“Participation in the competition has undoubtedly improved and enriched the relationships and lives of many high school students, and we congratulate the students from Safety Bay for winning the 2010 competition,” said Professor Stoney.
