Edith Cowan University’s (ECU) Social Work program, based at ECU South West in Bunbury, is celebrating International Social Work Day in a unique way, collaborating with social workers across the state to initiate a nationwide poster campaign.
A collaborative idea between Social Work Program Coordinator, Ms Lynelle Watts and the ECU Corporate Marketing Team, the Social Work Day Poster Project aims to answer the question; ‘Why aren’t people in the community aware of everything social workers do? And how do social workers describe their work to others?”
With Creative Industries student, Ms Amy Hosking, on board, Ms Watts and ECU Student Recruitment Manager Ms Nathalie Collins collaborated with social workers across the State to create authentic posters which described what being a social worker means to them.
The Australian Association of Social Workers was soon on board, with the posters now available from the ECU website to social workers nationwide.
“We hope the posters will raise awareness of the great work that social workers do in our communities, captured in their own words.” says Ms Watts.
