When brother and sister pair Sarah and Joseph Landro embarked on their studies at Edith Cowan University, they never imagined they would be crossing the graduation stage together years later. But that is exactly what will happen this Sunday, much to the delight of their proud family.

Both Sarah and Joseph will be graduating with a Bachelor of Creative Industries, majoring in Photomedia. For Sarah, studying alongside her brother was a surreal experience.

“I studied a postgraduate diploma in Creative Industries – I always wanted to study photography and it just turned out that Jo was studying photography as well. It felt a bit a bit weird going to university together, but we both had a passion for photography, so it all worked out,” Sarah said.

She will receive her postgraduate diploma on Sunday, with younger brother Jo receiving his Bachelor’s degree. Both hope to use their degrees to make their mark on the world of photography.

“I hope to continue making photographs and find a way to make a living out of it. Throughout my time at ECU I had passionate lecturers, who always made me think outside the square, and I have found their passion a real inspiration,” said Joseph.

Sarah is hopes to find a way to combine travel and photography as she embarks on her own photography career.

“A highlight at ECU was definitely the Photojournalism trip to Bangladesh. We joined a group of Bangladeshi students and completed a month long workshop in International Photojournalism and Documentary. It was awesome!”

“I would love to head back to Bangladesh and the dream would be to be able to combine travel and work – I guess that we’ll see what the future holds!”

Sarah and Joseph will cross the graduation stage this Sunday, alongside more than 250 students from the Faculty of Education and Arts.
