After 10 years of studying part-time and playing football, former West Coast Eagles star, Ashley Hansen has completed his Bachelor of Science (Exercise and Sports Science).
Ashley decided to take advantage of the elite athlete program on offer at ECU which enabled him to have a successful career with the West Coast Eagles as well as pursue his academic goals.
“Balancing a football career and the requirements of university was tough but university life provided me with a release from the pressures of my AFL career” Ashley said.
“My lecturers at ECU were extremely supportive of my situation. Their understanding and willingness to help is something I am very grateful for and without which, I doubt I would be graduating now.”
“I found the University promoted so much motivation and drive to do the hard work and achieve excellence in your field” Ashley said.
Ashley’s journey with ECU is not at an end. He has decided to continue his studies by enrolling in a Master of Exercise Science (Strength and Conditioning). He hopes to one day use his skills to help other elite athletes.
“I would really like to work within a sports club or institution, helping and developing athletes to achieve high levels of performance and success” Ashley said.
“To me, there would be no greater satisfaction than seeing people achieve what they set out to do and being a part of that in some capacity.”
Ashley is the student speaker at his graduation ceremony and will join over 1,900 ECU students who will celebrate their graduation on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 January at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. For more information on studying Exercise and Sport Science at ECU visit: www.reachyourpotential.com.au
