Chuchlands Campus
Edith Cowan University (ECU) is Western Australia 's second largest university and, with 21,000 students, needs to expand to meet demand. In 2000, using comprehensive socio-demographic research that highlights Perth 's northern corridor for significant growth, the University made a strategic decision to consolidate its metropolitan activities at the Joondalup and Mount Lawley campuses.
With State Government support, it is now redeveloping the 20ha Churchlands Campus as a premium housing estate known as Churchlands Green. This redevelopment has been carefully staged over several years to minimise disruption to ECU's students and staff.
Proceeds from land sales are being used to fund new and improved facilities at Mount Lawley and Joondalup.
In 2003, the University's headquarters and Faculty of Business and Law's undergraduate programs, along with several administrative functions, were transferred from Churchlands to a new complex at Joondalup. All remaining staff and students are expected to be transferred from Churchlands to other campuses by the middle of 2008. The next major move will be the School of Nursing , Midwifery and Post graduate Medicine into a new Health and Wellness Building at Joondalup.

The Health and Wellness building currently under construction
Still under construction, this $35.5million building is on schedule to be completed in July 2007. The majority of occupants will transfer from Churchlands during the 2007-2008 Christmas break. The Health and Wellness building will also become home to several of ECU's preventative health research centres, including the Vario Health Institute.
To cope with the influx of nursing students, a $6.5million, 350-seat lecture theatre is also being built at Joondalup. This will be located behind the new $36million library and technology centre.

Joondalup's new Library and Technology Centre
Post graduate Business and Law programs and the Perth Institute of Business and Technology, which is also offering ECU's international English programs, are scheduled to move in mid-2008 to a purpose-built facility at Mount Lawley . This $25.8million complex is being built on the site of the old gymnasium at Mount Lawley . It will house the campus' e-lab and include a 100-seat lecture theatre. Several buildings at both Joondalup and Mount Lawley are also being revamped to accommodate relocated functions from Churchlands or internal transfers.
