Current status

Dr Alfred Tan and Dr Martin Masek have been awarded US$100,000 from Microsoft to research how to extend telemedicine technologies to remote and rural Indigenous populations. In Australia antenatal care is only available at metropolitan and regional hospitals and health centres, mostly situated hundreds of kilometres from remote and rural Indigenous populations. Such communities are, however often connected to the outside world through modern communication technologies, such as satellite phones. Hence, through the deployment of telemedicine technologies, it is possible to extend some parts of such quality antenatal care to these remote and rural communities. Presented at Univation, significant level of interest from potential partners.
