Novel Integrated Broadband Digital Photonic Link for RF-to-Digital Conversion and Data Transport)

Prof. Kamal Alameh, Budi Juswardy (PhD student), and Yong Tak Lee, WA Centre for Excellence for Micro Photonic Systems (COMPS) & GIST

Finalist 2008 WA Inventor of the Year Competition (Early Stage Category).

Applications

Broadband wireless communication networks, Square Kilometre Array (SKA), Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Car navigation systems, Indoor multimedia transmission systems.

IP status

Provisional Patent Filed IP owned jointly by ECU and GIST.

Current status

A narrow band discrete RF to digital converter has been developed and design of a broadband RF-digital Chip is underway. The next step will be to develop a prototype device based on this design for use in demonstrating the technology’s capabilities to potential customers and licensees.
