High Speed Optical Interconnect: For ultrafast data processing

Prof. Kamal Alameh & Yong Tak Lee, WA Centre for Excellence for Micro Photonic Systems (COMPS) & GIST

Winner, 2007 WA Inventor of the Year (Early stage category).

Applications

High-performance computers, high-speed communication links, high-speed signal processing, Square Kilometre Array project.

IP status

3 PCT patents filed. IP owned jointly by ECU and Ytel.

Current status

High speed interconnects for very short distance communications links. A proof of concept demonstrator has been successfully completed. The manufacture and optimisation of a multi-channel demonstrator is currently underway. The next technical milestone is the development of a pre-production prototype. A spin-out company is planned to exploit this business opportunity, and is expected to be investment ready in 2012.
