ECU welcomes new Professorial Fellow, Professor Twigg

Professor Di Twigg, former Executive Director of Nursing Services of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital for over 13 years, has been appointed as Professorial Fellow at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Postgraduate Medicine.
Professor Twigg joined ECU this week on secondment for 12 months from the North Metropolitan Area Health Service of the Western Australian Health Department.
Professor Twigg has had a distinguished career to date, including several years in the position of Executive Director of Nursing Services, North Metropolitan Area Health Service and President of the Royal College of Nursing Australia from 2005 to 2007.
Professor Twigg was also Acting Chief Nursing Officer for the Department of Health for the last half of 2008.
During her secondment to ECU, Professor Twigg will have a key role in research and clinical practice, specifically in respect to:
- Developmental work around the staffing methods utilised in the WA public sector; and
- Investigating how support roles, such as Assistants in Nursing, can be safely assimilated into the workforce without compromising patient safety and clinical outcomes.
Professor Twigg is a Registered Nurse, Registered Midwife and has also completed the Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing) Honours at ECU in 1990 and holds a Master of Business Administration.
