More than 200 guests celebrated the launch of ECU's inaugural Research Week at the Engaging with Research@ECU event held on Thursday 20th August.
ECU's Professor John Finlay-Jones and Associate Professor Peter van Onselen with the guest speakers Held at the Burswood Entertainment Complex, the event showcased the depth and breadth of research being undertaken at ECU, and provided researchers and other staff the opportunity to meet and network with current and potential industry partners.
Associate Professor Peter van Onselen, Master of Ceremonies, introduced Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor John Finlay-Jones to officially welcome the guests and provide an introduction to the evenings proceedings.
The Chief Scientist for WA, Professor Lyn Beazley, then congratulated ECU on some of the excellent research currently being undertaken, and profiled some of the work of our key scientists. Professor Beazley went on to explain how important it is for universities and researchers to work with their communities, for their communities, and said it was clear that ECU is meeting that challenge.
Guests then had the chance to see some of ECU's research in action, through a DVD presentation, followed by brief presentations from some of ECU's key partners, including the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts and the Cancer Council of WA.
Dr Marcia Taylor, Director of the Office of Research and Innovation, said the event was a great success, with many new connections made with potential research partners.
