Rapid growth in Australian Cruise Industry

Thursday, 24 May 2012

  • Cruise Ship Tourism Research, Professor Ross Dowling

Foundation Professor of Tourism Ross Dowling has been researching the growth of the Cruise Industry in Australia. This research features in the latest instalment of the Research@ECU video series.

In 2010 over half a million Australians went cruising. Recent research by ECU on the growth of the cruise industry shows that cruising in Australia is growing at a far faster rate than the traditional cruising countries of England and the USA. This growth brings economic, social and environmental benefits.

ECU research has also found that not only are the previously popular cruise destinations of  Caribbean, Alaskan and Mediterranean being replaced by the more exotic  Australian and New Zealand options, the issue of safety and security also plays a factor with passengers.
