See PhD, Professional Doctorate or Master by Research students battle it out in the Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, as part of the ECU Research Week calendar of events.

The competition asks students to explain their research clearly, concisely and compellingly in under three minutes to a panel of judges, industry experts and spectators.

The Faculty of Education and Arts will be holding heats starting Tuesday, 10 August with the finalists from Faculty of Business and Law, Education and Arts and Computing, Health and Science competing on Monday, 16 August.

The finalists from each school will then compete in the ECU final on Thursday, 19 August.

Research Week co-ordinator, Kolyne Tan, believes the competition is a great chance for research students to share their thesis ideas.

“The competition encourages students to share research ideas both concisely and effectively, which is important when trying to explain their thesis to the wider community,” said Ms Tan.

The winner of the week-long competition will receive a $1,500 travel grant and an all expenses paid trip to Queensland, where they will represent ECU in the Australia and New Zealand 3MT competition.

Second prize will receive a $1,000 travel grant, and third prize will receive a $500 travel grant. There will also be a $250 travel grant awarded to the student selected as the people’s choice award.
