Minerals and Energy Research Institute of Western Australia Scholarships (MERIWA)
The Minerals and Energy Research Institute of Western Australia (MERIWA) awards one or two post-graduate 'top-up' scholarships annually to recipients selected by written application and an interview following short-listing. Selection is based on the relevance of the applicant's post-graduate studies to Western Australian minerals or petroleum industry, on the applicant's academic record and interview presentation, and on references.

Payments
Amount: $5,000 stipend and $5,000 toward the recipient's research project expenses, annually
Eligibility requirements
Eligibility criteria:
- Academic Merit applicants who have or expect to receive an APA or ECUPRS, including those already engaged in a research programme
- Research - appropriate to the fields of interest of MERIWA: minerals exploration, minerals processing, petroleum exploration, mining or petroleum engineering or rehabilitation allied to the minerals or petroleum industries
- Awardees shall be enrolled at a University within Western Australia as a full-time candidate for their first PhD degree

Applicant information:
- Applicants, who have already commenced their research, or students reapplying for a scholarship, should include a section on research outcomes already achieved, and referee reports should include an assessment of the research completed
- Applicants should attach a copy of their APA or ECUPRS application
- A resume or CV describing their previous achievements and work experience
- Any other supporting information considered appropriate
- Two or three referee reports independent of those in their APA/ECUPRS application. At least one referee report should include comments on the relevance and applicability of the research to the minerals and petroleum industries in Western Australia. Academic referees should include an assessment of the applicant's rank in quality, as a percentage, relative to the applicant’s peers
- Four copies of your application should be posted or delivered to MERIWA on or before 3 December, 2012
Selection:
- The applications will be examined by a sub-committee of MERIWA consisting of members of the Research Advisory Committee and the Board, who will recommend to the Board. The award(s) should be made late in January or early in February
