Department of Education, Training Schools Teaching Scholarships - ECU Teacher Residency Program 2013

Each year, depending on the anticipated demand for teachers in a particular year level or specialist area, the Department of Education offers a range of teaching scholarships. In 2013, students enrolled in an Edith Cowan University Teacher Residency Program who are flexible and open to teaching statewide in 2014, may be eligible to receive a scholarship.

Payments

Successful applicants

  • are guaranteed full-time employment in a rural public school at the start of 2014
  • receive up to $15,000 (less tax), to support your studies and to help you get started in your career

*A scholarship payment is considered taxable income. Please seek advice from the Australian Taxation Office or a financial advisor before applying.


Eligibility requirements

Eligibility criteria:

There may be scholarship opportunities available for people going into their final year of a teaching qualification through the following programs:

  • Edith Cowan University Teacher Residency Program

To be eligible to apply you must also be:

  • studying to become a teacher in a Western Australian university
  • available to teach full-time from the start of the 2014 school year
  • available to teach statewide, in a public school

Teaching areas information

Each year the list of scholarships available may change depending on the demand for particular school year levels or subject area of need. In 2013 you can apply for a scholarship in the following areas:

Secondary teachers in:

  • mathematics (major)
  • science (physics and chemistry majors)
  • design and technology (woodwork, metalwork and automotive)

Primary or secondary teachers in special needs (education support).

Nationality:

  • Australian citizen
  • Australian permanent resident
  • New Zealand citizen

Conditions of scholarship:

  • You will receive a maximum of $15 000* (less tax). This amount is paid fortnightly while you study
  • As part of the scholarship you will be required to sign a contract with the Department of Education to teach full-time from the start of the 2014 school year
  • Scholarship holders must be available for appointment statewide on completion of their studies
  • Scholarships will only be awarded to students with a major in one of the listed scholarship subject areas

Applications for the Training Schools Teaching Scholarships will remain open until the end of 2013. Please note applications can only be accepted by post due to the number of attachments required. Faxed and emailed applications will not be accepted.

Method of application for Graduate Diploma of Education - Residency Mode

Application for the course is made through ECU. Applicants seeking entry to the residency mode must apply directly to the University by completing and submitting the on-line application and meet the same minimum requirements as those seeking entry to the on-campus mode. Residency applicants will also be required to undertake additional selection activities that include attendance at a group interview and participation in a school-based selection activity.
