The role of the Treasury - Budgeting and Beyond

Presented by, Mr Mr David Christmas, Director of Strategic Policy at the Department of Treasury Western Australia.

Treasury departments play a key role in promoting sound Government finances and value for money outcomes for the community. A core role is to manage Government's finances in a transparent and sustainable way, primarily through an annual budget process.

Treasury Departments are also concerned with promoting economic growth and achieving value‑for‑money outcomes in the provision of services and delivery. The presentation will provide an overview of the budget process but also outline, beyond that, some of the broader work that it is undertaking to achieve these objectives.
