Making Movie Magic - Dr Don McAlpine returns to ECU

Acclaimed international cinematographer Dr Don McAlpine is returning to ECU as part of a three-day film fest to give ECU students an insight into life behind the lens.

An Oscar and BAFTA nominee, Don has worked on over 55 films and earned a reputation as a brilliant craftsman, adaptable and innovative when working with directors to realize their visions. Don’s impressive filmography includes films such as X Men Origins: Wolverine, Romeo+Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Predator and Patriot Games. His most recent work was as director of photography on the highly successful Australian film The Dressmaker

With a career spanning six decades in the movie business, Don’s return offers a unique and inspiring experience for students studying in multiple disciplines including film and video, screen studies, animation, game design, photography, creative writing and performance.  

The headline event, a special screening of Don’s 2013 film Enders Game welcomes students and staff from all disciplines to attend and will include an intimate Q&A session providing a rare glimpse into what it takes to make movie magic.
