If you go down to the Library at ECU you are sure of a big surprise. For gathered there will be Threadbare, an intimate exhibition exploring the inner workings of cuddly companions, mostly teddy bears together with a few pandas.
The Threadbare exhibition is a collaborative project between three ECU artists - DeeDee Noon, Kevin Ballantine and Gill Willmer.
DeeDee Noon’s work looks at the emotional textures of tender companionship in a series of photographic hug-your-teddy moments. This complex intimacy is juxtaposed with Kevin Ballantine’s pithy – Panda Thinking – whimsical yet wise thoughts-for-life, and Gill Willmer’s toy-hack paintings, collages, and mono-prints that delve deeply into the dark interior of teddy bears.
The Threadbare exhibition opens in the foyer of the Mount Lawley Campus Library, Building 7, Edith Cowan University from Tuesday, 4 October until Friday, 11 November. During the month-long October showing, the Threadbare exhibition includes three separate events.
An after-work opening where the artists will deliver short talks about their work.
