Sold Out WA Screen Academy Gala Screening and Short Film Successes

The WA Screen Academy held their annual Gala Screening at the Luna Palace Cinemas in Leederville on the Thursday, 28 of September.

The red carpet event, hosted by actor Angus McLaren (Doctor Doctor, Packed to the Rafters), was filmed Channel Nine for a special program broadcast on the Nine Network in October.

The event was completely sold out and was well attended by leading industry professionals including Sean Dooley, Manager of ARRI Australia; Ian Booth, CEO of ScreenWest and Graeme Hill, Programming, Marketing & Communications Manager at Channel Nine Perth, ECU Vice Chancellor Professor Steve Chapman and Dean of Arts and Humanities Professor Clive Barstow.

Six short films were screened on the night showcasing the work of the 2017 WA Screen Academy film students and the graduating WAAPA actors.

WA Screen Academy short films also continue to have great success at festivals around the world. Short film Quartermaine has just been accepted into the prestigious 16th International Student Film & Video Festival of Beijing Film Academy (ISFVF).

Two WA Screen Academy productions have also been nominated for the highly competitive ATOM Awards to be held in Melbourne in November. Best Educational Game for online series Wreck;and Best Tertiary Documentary for Deighties.

Deighties also continues its international successes, recently winning the Audience Award at the Australian Short Film Today in New York.
