Using community engagement and enhanced visual information to promote FireWatch satellite communication as a support for collaborative decision-making

Western Australian state statutory authority, Landgate’s product, FireWatch, provides important information for people making decisions about fire management and control. FireWatch’s relevance and reach is national, however, Landgate believes that it has yet to reach its potential in terms of community awareness and use. Through a successful ARC Linkage grant, a team at ECU, partnering with Landgate, is carrying out design-based research to make the presentation of FireWatch information more intuitive and responsive to public users’ needs. In addition, community-based research explores the value of FireWatch to communities, to establish mechanisms through which FireWatch is integrated within community decision-making and fire planning.
