Title: Sonification and Visualisation of Data: The Re-appropriation of Digital Media Sourced Through the Found Environment
Abstract: This practice-led research will investigate the use of digital media, sourced through the found environment, to drive the process of music composition. The research aims to address how the re-appropriation of digital media (i.e. hexadecimal data, field footage, field recordings and music visualisation) may be used to create parallel perspectives of the environment, and will involve experimentation with methods of sonification, and the conveying of narrative through the combination of audio and visual elements. The research will culminate in a written exegesis and a creative folio of work that mediates between abstract and meaningful associations with the found environment.
