Decibel commissions 7 new music compositions from visual and experimental artists

New music ensemble Decibel are commissioning seven new works for their ‘Sound Art’ program, where visual artists create artworks that are intended as ‘scores’ for the ensemble to perform. Given Decibel’s award winning world leading expertise in interpreting graphic notations, this project develops new research in the field:  finding new ways and protocols for the reading of graphic symbols, rather than traditional music notation, as music. The new works will be shown at a one off, premiere live performance, that opens a two week exhibition of the new works, and includes a book publication that comes with recordings of the commissioned works.

The works include a ‘bass guitar pinball’ by NSW artist Lucas Abela (NSW), film based works by Erin Coates (WA), Tina Havlock-Stevens (NSW), paintings by Kevin Robertson (WA) and Matt Hunt (WA/UK) and a drawing by Marco Fusinato (VIC).
