Enactus ECU

Enactus is an international nonprofit organisation dedicated to inspiring University students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action. Enactus students recruit their own team members, set up their own roles and responsibilities, decide their own projects, implement them in the community and finally each year present them to panels of industry judges from businesses around Australia.

Enactus ECU consists of domestic, international, undergraduate and postgraduate students from the School of Business and Law, who have developed a series of community-based projects that consider relevant economic, social and environmental factors. Our team then presents these projects at the Enactus Australia National Conference and Championships against teams from other universities around Australia. The projects are judged based on how effectively they empower people in need, by applying business and economic concepts, an entrepreneurial approach and the level to which they improve quality of life and standard of living.

The team has worked more than 930 volunteer hours over the past year and their activities provide experience in project management, communication skills, teamwork, leadership, networking and often lead to employment.

In 2016, Enactus ECU were the winners at the Enactus Australia National Conference and Championships and represented Australia at the Enactus World Cup in Toronto, Canada. The team competed with 35 other countries from around the world and connected with global business leaders during the competition.

In 2017, Enactus ECU were runners up at the Enactus Australia National Conference and Championships with a brand new team.

In 2018 and 2019 Enactus ECU were Semi-Finalists in the Enactus Australia National Conference and Championships.

In 2020, 2021 and 2022, the Enactus ECU team has run and is running various community projects such as:

  • Net University
  • BE SAFE
  • Sustainability Festival
  • International students project (emerging project in 2022)

Our partners and sponsors include, Harbourside Retirement Village Mindarie, ECU Guild and St. Stephen’s School.

Be Safe

The Problem

32 international students have drowned in Australian water over the last 10 years. Poor swimming skills and  limited water awareness were among the leading contributing factors to their deaths.

Taking Action

We have partnered with Mullaloo Surf Life Saving Club and have developed a program which provides a social and practical education experience in order to reduce the risk of coastal drownings amongst Perth's inernational community

Going Forward

Engaging and partnering with organisations and businesses with a vested interest in the inclusion of international students, establishing the program as a prominent part of the initial student orientation process and Marketing the project as not only for international students but also for migrant workers.

Net University

The Problem

Senior Citizens in Australia are facing ongoing challenges adapting to modern technology, resulting in a substantial skills divide which subsequently leads to: social isolation, contributing to health issues, falling prey to online scammers & exclusion from many essential services only available online.

Taking Action

Until the end of 2018 Enactus ECU had partnerships with two local governments in order to deliver Net University classes in local libraries. Net University bridged the digital divide between generations by enlisting the help of students from a local high school with Apple, Android, Tablet, iCommunications and Cyber security classes.

Going Forward

Enactus ECU will be taking our classes and one-on-one assistance to the doorsteps of seniors in WA by offering them at Retirement Villages. This provides potential for expanding Net Uni on a state, national and international level through commercialisation and self sustainability and we are developing new modules such as MyGov, Transperth and online banking to adapt to the changing needs of our class attendees.
