At ECU, we teach business differently from other universities. We believe in the importance of developing your employability skills to better prepare you for your future career in the workplace. We were the first in Australia to teach employability skills in a specially designed program called ECU Business Edge.
So what are these employability skills? They are a list of skills, behaviours and attributes first developed in 2002 by the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Business Council of Australia, with funding by the Australian Federal Government. They are considered essential if students want to be ‘job-ready’ when they finish their degree. We revised them further to keep them up to date and relevant for future graduates and the contemporary workplace. We want students to have a competitive edge in the job market when they graduate.
ECU Business Edge is taught in specially designed classrooms with up to date technology to allow you to work with others on real world problems.
It’s student-centred so there are plenty of role-plays, scenarios, interactive multi-media and activities where students develop their employability skills by ‘doing’. In the final capstone unit, students get the opportunity to do practical work integrated learning with local businesses to really extend their skills and abilities.
The program responds to the voice of the employer through the relevant content and innovative facilitation styles, which support and further develop the identified employability skills. The ECU Business Edge team continually strive to enhance the relevance of the program by consultation and interaction with the local business community.
