We connect our teaching and research programs to our local and global communities through a range of active industry projects, exhibitions, and creative collaborations. This unique interaction has enabled us to establish professional affiliations with a number of partners within the growing creative industries. This gives students the opportunity to engage with industry across a range of disciplines and professions.
The School’s professional placement program provides students with tailored work experience within government, non-government and corporate organisations in Australia and around the world. The Federal Government report, ‘Communication Studies in Australia’, highlighted the program as one of the most comprehensive placement courses in Australia.
Our engagement with community also includes partnerships with a number of local schools through workshops, short courses and tours/visits. If your school is interested in finding out more about our workshops, short courses or tours please contact us.
During the year, speculative ideas are explored and creative outputs celebrated in a contemporary art space called ‘Spectrum Project Space’. Spectrum has a regular public exhibition program and encourages students and staff to contribute to Perth’s vibrant art scene and to engage in critical dialogue with various art professions.
Toward the end of each year, the School invites the ECU community and members of the public to the graduation shows for the creative majors. These exhibitions showcase the best work from our creative students, including: visual arts; environmental and spatial design; graphic design; film and video, photomedia; contemporary fashion and textiles; digital media; and more. The shows are a fantastic opportunity to experience firsthand the hard work students put in throughout the year and to meet some of the best emerging creative talents in WA.
