Academic skills and grammar workshops Semester 1, 2011

The following 45 minute workshops are run by the FEA learning advisers. Workshops are free to all Communication & Arts, WAAPA, Kurongkurl Katitjin and Education students. Students can attend all workshops or come only for the topics that interest them. The academic skills workshop is offered more than once every week so that students can choose a time most convenient for them. The workshops are offered from week 2 through to week 5, with drop-ins in week 6. Any of these workshops can be continued throughout the semester if student groups wish to continue.

Five types of workshop are offered:

Academic Skills workshops cover the basic skills students need to master early in their studies.

Grammar Skills workshops are for students who need to brush up on the basics of English grammar. They are especially recommended for Journalism and writing students.

‘Speaking and presenting at Uni’ workshops are fun, relaxed conversation classes with a serious purpose. We want to:

  • Answer your questions about uni (or Aussie) culture
  • Give you more confidence in tutorials
  • Help you develop your oral presentation skills

‘Quick Fix’ academic skills and grammar sessions – week 6 only Students can drop by with questions about assignments, grammar or any study problems.

Exam Tips workshops will show you how to prepare for exams and give practical and emotional support. They run in the first week of swot vac’ (Week 14).
