Swap, Drop and Roll

Thursday, 01 November 2012

PhD Candidate in the School of Communications and Arts, Andy Simionato invites you to the first edition of Swap, Drop and Roll, where the public is invited to participate by bringing a book they wish to swap or abandon. Any books removed may remain with the participant indefinitely. The event will unfold from November 2 through December 30, 2012.

Swap, Drop and Roll is a social experiment on the communities that form where the complex pathways of the book intersect. Swapping a book requires a point of contact, a common space through which there may be an exchange of energies, along with the exchange of the material object itself, each time adding to the Situational Library which is an attempt to make visible, if only for an instant, those communities that form at each passing of the book. Within this Situational Library there is the potential for the divergence and reconfiguration of the book, not through some alteration of its medium or mode of inscription, but through those who hold the idea of the book in common.
