USD $100,000 funded by Microsoft Research, USA.

Research Interests
- Hybrid learning approaches, machine learning, pattern recognition, hybrid rough-fuzzy systems, bio-informatics, mobile robotics, data/information visualization.
Current Research Areas
- Hybridization in Rough-Fuzzy/Fuzzy-Rough systems for pattern recognition.
- Enhancement on Nearest Shrunken Centroid (NSC) algorithm, Rough-Fuzzy & Rough-GA Feature Selection on medical data, Visual Data Analysis in bio-informatics.
- Data/Information Visualization for Statistical & Visual Analysis on high dimensional medical and spatial data.
- Navigation and Path-Planning algorithm for Autonomous Navigation for mobile robots.
Current Research Projects
- WAMBOT@ECU: The aim is to improve previous modules developed for the MAGIC 2010 Competition for achieving more stable and reliable robotic systems for autonomous navigation for ground robotic systems.
- Data Visualization: This project is to develop an interactive data visualizer which provides in-depth analysis and reveals hidden data structures/relationships/dependencies by a variety of data analysis on high dimensional data.
- Bio-Informatics: Feature Selection using hybrid approaches with GA, fuzzy sets and rough sets theories, NSC, and others. Selection and Classification on bio-markers in Alzheimer’s disease.
- Biometrics Recognition System: This project is being set up at the moment. The aim is to develop a more reliable and robust integrated bio-metrics recognition system using faces, iris, and fingerprints for personal identification.
