ECU cyber security students are among the best in the business when it comes to cyber defence.
The students showed off their skills at the recent Cyber Defence University Challenge, which puts university teams from across Australia against each other for 24-hours of intense competition.
The challenge asked teams to identify IT vulnerabilities within a fictitious Australian business, with points scored for the successful completion of a number of tasks. The ECU team came second overall, narrowly beaten by the University of New South Wales.
Computer and Security Science Lecturer Peter Hannay says the students showed great skills throughout the 24-hour challenge.
"This is a really impressive effort, and the students came really close to taking out the competition," said Mr Hannay.
"We are really proud of our cyber-defence program here at ECU, and congratulate he students on achieving such a great result."
Prizes will be presented to the winners at an award ceremony during National Cyber Security Awareness Week in early June 2012.
