Better Beginnings program and research featured on Today Tonight (Channel 7)

Friday, 31 August 2012

Members of the Centre for Research in Early Childhood (CREC) have been evaluating the Better Beginnings 0-3 years program since its pilot in 2005. We have interviewed parents, librarians and community child health nurses and have found an overwhelmingly positive response to the program. Our 2007 – 2010 evaluation shows that Better Beginnings is having a positive impact on early literacy practices with parents establishing a range of effective book sharing practices and children developing early literacy behaviors. Our research suggests that Better Beginnings has reinforced and extended parents’ knowledge and beliefs and provided new understandings and practices that have been sustained over time.

Some of our findings are reported in the Today Tonight program, which can be found on the WA State Library Better Beginnings website along with the ‘Introduction to Better Beginnings’ video.

You can find more information about our evaluation of all the Better Beginnings programs on our Projects web page.
