A pair of top performing ECU students are set to make their marks in the fields of education and psychology after being awarded Silver Scholarships.

Julianne Jayasekera and Sophie Brouwer, who both achieved weighted average marks of above 80 per cent during their first semester of university study, have been selected to receive Silver Scholarships. It will provide them with free tuition for the duration of their studies.

The Silver Scholarships are part of ECU’s 25th anniversary celebrations in 2016. They are awarded to outstanding students who demonstrate a high level of academic achievement.

Inspiring young minds

Despite graduating high school with an Australian Tertiary Entrance Rank (ATAR) of 99.2, Sophie, who is studying Secondary Education, wasn’t sure what she wanted to study at university.

But since commencing at ECU, she has discovered her passion for teaching.

“My experience has been fantastic and I couldn’t have imagined how much I would love my degree,” she said.

“The lecturers and tutors are passionate about what they teach and their students.”

Scholarship opens doors

After graduating from high school in Sri Lanka Julianne Jayasekera decided to come Australia to study psychology.

“ECU had, in my opinion, the best Psychology related courses. I like that there are no predetermined majors or minors so you have the flexibility to pick courses from the whole of the arts and humanities sector,” she said.

“My at ECU experience has been wonderful so far and it has opened so many doors.”

Scholarships

ECU offers a range of scholarships to support its students to reach their full potential. They are available to a variety of students, including high academic achievers, students from low socio-economic backgrounds or rural and regional areas Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, and to students with disabilities.

Scholarships can be used to cover the costs associated with university, including text books, travel and other study expenses.
