Phase Three of the Focused Improvement in Early Literacy Development (FIELD) Project (2012) was designed to extend the findings of Phases One and Two of the original 2009 DEEWR funded project. Outcomes of the first two phases included the development of a research-based model of early intervention and accompanying resources. The third phase was designed to assess the effectiveness of both the model and the resources in supporting teacher efficacy and improved literacy outcomes of students in the Pre-primary year of school.
The FIELD Resource Package was the culmination of collegial networking among teachers and mentors involved in the 2009 project as focused literacy programs were planned and implemented. It was designed to facilitate the continued professional learning of teachers, by building efficacy in supporting student literacy learning in the early years of school. It showcases an action research model that follows a cycle of assessment, planning, teaching, reflection and revision. The resource contains an interactive CD-ROM, and a notebook for reflection and personal planning that encourages continuous and active learning by teachers. The acronym ‘FIELD’, as explained in the figure below, guides the user through the layout and structure of the resource.
