This two-phase project evaluated the effectiveness of the SPICE secondary teachers’ enrichment program – a joint initiative of the WA Department of Education and the University of Western Australia that sought to increase teachers’ enthusiasm for science and science teaching and support them to use inquiry methods to implement a curriculum that is relevant and engaging for high school students. The research was conducted using a mixed methods approach with data gathered through surveys of principals, heads of science departments, teachers and students, and interviews with heads of science, teachers and students in case study schools. Funding was provided by the WA Department of Education and the University of Western Australia.
