Simmone is a lecturer in the School of Education.

Background

Simmone Pogorzelski is a teacher educator with over 20 years of experience working in a range of research, training, and development roles, primarily in the field of literacy. She has supported schools and teachers to implement effective reading instruction in Western Australia, Victoria, and NSW, and led the development of early literacy and reading intervention programs that have achieved national scale.

Simmone’s research interests focus on language and literacy development in the early years of school, effective reading instruction, assessment, and intervention. As part of her doctoral research, Simmone is investigating the role of text and the methods used to measure progress in beginning readers in the first year of school.
