Green communication technologies for 5G wireless networks

Green communication technologies are in high demand because of concerns over the increase in power consumption in the ICT sector. This sector currently consumes 8% of the total power production and unless power efficient devices are deployed at a large scale, the ICT sector itself will account for more than 14% of estimated power consumption by 2020. The next generation of wireless communication technologies, for example 5G, considers energy efficiency as a major priority and aims to achieve up to 90% saving per service provided. This project aims to develop new green communication technologies for 5G wireless networks. The main focus will be in radio access network which is known for dominating energy consumption in a wireless communication network.
