Methodologies for identification and suppression of reflections within thermal images

Thermal (infra-red, IR) imaging is a well established non-intrusive diagnostic technique widely used in research and development. When applied to surfaces, acquired images sometimes include undesired perturbations caused by reflections from nearby hot (IR) sources. This project investigated different approaches for mitigating the effects of IR reflections as they bounce off solid (opaque) surfaces. Image processing was applied in order to identify and extract these IR reflections. The effectiveness of several surface coatings, in suppressing IR reflections, was also tested.
