Tutorial assistance

The Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme Tertiary Tuition (ITAS) aims to improve the educational outcomes of Indigenous students in tertiary courses to the same levels as those for non-Indigenous Australians.

ITAS covers the cost of engaging a tutor to provide academic and study skills assistance to eligible students. Students can expect to receive up to two hours tutorial assistance per subject per week, which will be supplemented by an additional total of five hours exam preparation (conditions apply).

ITAS is funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) under the Indigenous Education Direct Assistance (IEDA) program.

Who is eligible to apply for ITAS?

To be eligible for ITAS, you must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, and enrolled (internally or externally) on a full-time or part-time basis in an undergraduate education program. Students will need to complete a student application form every semester.

First year students are strongly encouraged to apply for ITAS to help with your studies in your foundation year.

Bridging, postgraduate and WAAPA students are not entitled to ITAS assistance. However applications from students will be considered on a case by case basis, usually after all undergraduate applications have been assessed.

How to apply

Applications are available from Kurongkurl Katitjin and through the ITAS Coordinator. Applications can be submitted directly to the ITAS Coordinator at Kurongkurl Katitjin or by fax at (61 8) 9370 6055.

The ITAS Coordinator will only be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays during semester for ITAS related enquiries.
