The impact of undergraduate employability skills provision
This project will evaluate the influence of Faculty undergraduate employability skill provision on graduate employment outcomes using data from the Australian Graduate Survey (AGS).
Findings will better inform stakeholders of the impact of skill provision and will highlight other factors which also determine graduate employment prospects. This will add further to our understanding of graduate employability and how universities may enhance graduate career prospects.
Findings may also highlight the need for industry to modify their recruitment and selection practices to better align with their widely disseminated expectations of employability skill outcomes in recent graduates. Importantly, these expectations inform professional association accreditation criteria, curricula design and initiatives for up-skilling graduates at often significant cost. It is important, therefore, to ascertain whether graduate employers are honouring universities which are responding effectively to their calls for highly skilled and work-ready graduates.
- To measure the impact of the provision of certain employability skills in universities on graduate employment outcomes.
- To investigate the impact of certain demographic/background factors, investigated within the AGS, on graduate employment outcomes
Employment data for each university will be accessed using the AGS, a national census of newly qualified higher education graduates. The survey response rate for domestic Australian students is typically 60 to 65 percent and it represents the only nationally consistent measure of graduate outcomes in Australian higher education.
