ECU's School of Management invites you to attend a PhD Proposal presentation by Amarasinghe Mudalige Chamara Sampath:
Strategy Development in a Sri Lankan SME: a case study
The aim of this research is to compare the strategy process of a Sri Lankan SME with the normative theories of strategic management. A conceptual framework based on strategic management theories and models that support the 'positioning view' and 'resource-based view' of strategy has been derived from the extant literature.
The approach of this research is to understand the extent of managers' knowledge about strategic management theories and to identify the possible relevance of the theory to the Sri Lankan SME sector. The study is significant as it will provide insight into this previously inaccessible phenomenon, creating a foundation for future research and development of the sector, particularly by making SMEs aware of the strategic models and their use. The specific research questions are:
- What are the predominant and relevant models in strategic management that can be applied in the context of Sri Lankan SMEs?
- How does the current strategic management practice of a Sri Lankan SME differ to those models?
- What are the drivers or causes of differences between theory and practice in the context of the selected SME?
