$1500 Study Abroad subsidy on offer

Study in China as part of your ECU degree.

The Faculty of Education and Arts is offering a $1500 subsidy to students who are successful in applying for a Study Abroad program at Shaanxi Normal University (SNNU) in China for Semester Two, 2011. Faculty of Business and Law students may be eligible to apply.

SNNU is located in central China, in the culturally vibrant city of Xian. Participating students will stay in the University Hotel, with access to SNNU’s indoor and outdoor sports facilities, and the opportunity to join sight-seeing tours in Xian.

During the 13-week program at SNNU, there will be four units on offer which can be credited to your ECU degree. The units are from the Faculty of Education and Arts, however, Faculty of Business and Law students can still participate if these units fit into their degree.

The following units (or similar) will be offered:

  • Introduction to Journalism: JOU2111;
  • Media, Law and Ethics: CMM2103;
  • Independent project unit relevant to your area of study, as approved by your ECU Course Co-ordinator; and
  • SNNU Chinese studies unit, covering introductory Chinese, Tai Chi and Chinese culture. This will count as an elective unit, and is taught by an SNNU lecturer.

These units will be credited towards your ECU degree if approved by your Course Co-ordinator.

Students will be led by an ECU lecturer, Associate Professor Trevor Cullen, and supported by the ECU-China Representative Office located on campus at SNNU.

An overseas study experience widens your horizons intellectually, culturally and socially, provides plenty of opportunities for personal growth and improves your employment options. If you have ever considered studying abroad as part of your ECU degree, the SNNU Study Abroad Program is an excellent option.

Eligibility criteria

By the end of Semester One, 2011, students must have achieved a course WAM (weighted average mark) of 50 per cent or more and be in Good Academic Standing.
