Professor Ross Dowling convenes international geotourism conference
3rd Global Geotourism Conference, in the Sultanate of Oman.
Foundation Professor of Tourism Ross Dowling has recently co-convened the 3rd Global Geotourism Conference, Seeing Destinations Differently, held in the Sultanate of Oman from 30 October to 1 November.
Professor Ross Dowling says that geotourism, the tourism of geology and landscape, is a new form of tourism which has much to offer the tourism industry. This year’s conference was proof of the growing industry, attracting 350 delegates from 30 countries, from Iceland to South Africa, including tourism experts and international agencies.
As Co-Convenor of the conference, Professor Dowling acted as MC throughout, provided the opening keynote address, shared his expertise in another keynote speech on global geotourism, presented three papers, and chaired the Final Plenary Workshop at the close of Conference.
During the conference Professor Dowling also awarded an ECU Masters Degree Fees Scholarship, on behalf of the Faculty of Business and Law. The recipient was the Oman Tourism Ministry’s Director of Tourism Product Development, Mr Said Bin Khalfan Al-Musharfi.
